The 3D-Tool CAD viewer from 3D-Tool is a universal tool for enterprise-wide assessment and tuning of 3D designs. The new 3D-Tool version 16 is characterized by a number of new features that enable more productivity. These include automatic generation of bills of materials (BOM) and user-defined reports with model overviews, dimensions and weights. Reports can be output in PDF, RTF and HTML formats.

In addition, the 3D measurement functions have been enhanced. Contour lengths and centers of mass of models and components can now be determined, and intersection points and edge centers can be selected as measurement references. Wall thickness analysis influences evaluation of 3D designs. The new main version of 3D-Tool offers faster analysis and, with the sphere method, an additional calculation method for wall thicknesses.

More Flexibility and Ease of Use

The user-friendly implementation of practical requirements is the focus of development. For example, version 16 of 3D-Tool enables a more flexible arrangement of 3D notes on surfaces, edges, points and circle centers. In addition, manual input of the viewing angle simplifies the alignment of the 3D display. The menu in 3D mode has been made clearer to facilitate navigation through the program's extensive functions. In addition, the range of languages has been expanded: In addition to English, German, French and Korean, the program interface is now also available in Spanish.

Versions and Test Options

3D-Tool is available in three versions, which differ in the supported file formats and cost between 150 and 600 euros. Depending on the version, 3D-Tool supports the native CAD formats of  popular CAD systems such as CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks and Inventor as well as general data exchange formats such as STEP, Parasolid and JT and triangulated data such as STL and 3MF. In addition, 3D-Tool offers a CAD converters that converts 3D models of major CAD systems and 3D exchange formats, making design and development independent of expensive CAD interfaces.
